On November 1, 2023, The Black Mental Health Alliance for Education & Consultation, Inc. (BMHA) proudly announced the recipient of the prestigious Phoenix Arising Award - Dr. William Lawson, MD, PHD, DLFAPA, Founder and Director of the Institute for Reducing Disparities LLC. Recognized for his outstanding contributions, Dr. Lawson receives the Peoples’ Choice For Impact on the Mental Health And Substance Use In the Community Award. This honor, paying homage to BMHA's principal founder, Dr. Maxie T. Collier, celebrates Dr. Lawson's exemplary commitment to fostering maximal human development in the Black community.

Dr. Lawson, a highly regarded psychiatrist and expert in the field of mental health, has been selected as a Distinguished Presenter at the American Psychiatric Association (APA) Annual Meeting, which will take place in San Francisco from May 20th to May 24th, 2023.

As a Distinguished Presenter, Dr. Lawson will be recognized for his outstanding contributions to the field of psychiatry and her commitment to advancing research and clinical practice.

On Dr. Lawsow was chosen as an esteemed keynote speaker at the annual Spring 2023 Black Psychiatrists of America Spring Conference held at Heharry Medical College in Tennessee from March 23-25, 2023.

Dr. Lawson spoke about the importance of African American patients receiving equitable and effective treatment, funding, and resources.
